The bad part of living inthe country! Found this in my living room fighting with my cat!

Another day..............

Definately not another dollar LOL. Well,, dinner was great last night, fried pork chops (they were on clearance so we got the large package that we divided into two dinners and only paid $7 for it, so only $3.50 per meal, the side dish was two envelopes of chedder broccoli noodles at $1 each, and a can of corn bought from the food auction for about .10. So, last night's meal cost $5.60 which is $1.40 per person! NOT BAD!!

One trick I've learned is to shop in the middle of the week if possible. The reduced meats are more available at wal-mart at that time. All the reduced means is they have dated it and the date is bout to be up. The meat is not bad and I take it home and stick it right in my deepfreeze so it's good for a few months that way. I always check the reduced breads as well. Again, if you find a good deal, buy it up. Stick it in the freezer. The only tip I have on that is, when you thaw it out, take it out of the package if any ice got on the bread. That way you can knock that off before it thaws and you won't have any soggy or hard edges from it when it thaws. Now, bread won't usually last long if it was reduced. Of course bread doesn't usually last long after purchase anyway, so just make sure to look it over good each time you get a serviing. And the 1/2 price loaf of french bread.....makes the BEST french toast!!

I am always looking for ways to save money in other areas, right now I'm about to get on my treadmill that was FREE! Yes, my favorite word! Took me a few months to find it, but after many posts on Craigslist, and then a post on my Freecycle list, I found a great person who was willing to give me the one she had in her garage for a long time. It's a huge one and I'm so thrilled to be getting myself into shape right in my own living room!

I've got to start posting pictures I know, cuz one of these days someone is going to actually read this and want to see what all I am talking about LOL>

Anyway, hope this helps. Have a great day!

Meat shopping at Walmart

Well, yes I spent $111.00 yesterday, a little more than I wanted. But I got enough meat to last a full two weeks if not a little more than that. Of course there was other things, too. Got the makeup to make my daughter a zombie for Halloween, the brushes to put it on and chalk to color her hair (can't wait to show pics) got body wash for everyone (a bottle of mens and a bottle of womens lol), bread, eggs, milk, a bunch of side dishes, some noodles and cheese sauces. I actually did really well not impulse shopping and stuck to my list. Then came home and fixed dinner. Let's see, bought the roll of hamburger for $11.98 and used half of it so 5.99 on meat, the noodles (always save in the box) were $1.08 and the cheese sauce (ragu double cheddar) was $1.68, so a meal for 4 for under $10.00 and..............there are leftovers! Homemade hamburger helper that fed 4 people and if I wasn't going to a PLAC luncheon today, I would have lunch.
Fortunately, I go to a food auction in Drumright once a month and usually spend anywhere from $40 to $100 on dry goods that lasts the month. (I will talk about that in another post, but definately ask around and see if there are any of these close to you) Then maybe another $100 at Walmart on meat, etc. So far I'm down to about $300 or less a month on groceries, and no one goes to bed hungry. So, while I might not be doing as good as the extreme couponers, I am still saving money!
I'm looking forward to coming back each day with a new money saving recipe and hope this helps someone!

PLEASE NOTE I AM NOT ENDORSING ANY PRODUCTS! I AM GIVING YOU THE RECIPE AS I USED IT WITH THE BRANDS I USED.

Homemade cheesy hamburger helper:
2.5 lbs of hamburger
1 bottle of ragu double cheddar cheese sauce
16 oz of rotini noodles

put salted water on to boil for noodles, fry hamburger til brown, drain grease and add cheese sauce. when noodles are done, mix with hamburger and cheese sauce and serve.

I've got to get back into this......

I really want to start blogging more. This is still new to me, and figuring out what to write is the hardest part. Right now, I'm going taking it day to day. Finances are tight, but God continues to show me just how easy it can be without money ruling the day. Yesterday, I was given the most amazing treadmill! Yes, I said given! You gotta love that price right! Last week, we were given the most beautiful solid oak hutch I've ever seen! It's 7 feet tall and 6 feet long and .................. it was FREE! I guess my blog is going to turn into how you survive in this day and age with less than $30,000 a year for a family of, well 4 now LOL.
Oh yeah, did I tell you about the 92 Chevy truck that my husband is now driving? Oh yeah, it was ................ FREE! Well, we traded our 71 ford ford for it. Which had been traded for a 93 toyota, which if I remember right was traded for an 86 ford, which THAT truck was given to us!
Am I saying we don't spend money, oh NO! We do, but if we can barter, or get for free than why not! I mean, every dime I don't spend in one area I can spend somewhere else.
It's my oldest son's birthday today and I'm going to pick up my younger two and go to Walmart and yes, check the clearance area for a cake. He loves chocolate and while I probably should make him one, I didn't realize I was out of chocolate. So I'm gonna splurge this time and buy one that he can share or not up to him. He will be 22 this year and I know he doesn't have a clue how proud of him I am. He only sees me worry about him. But, that is a blog for another day.
Today, I'm working on on my treadmill and organizing my new hutch, and in the coming days I will tell you how little I spend without having to go to the extreme of extreme couponing. That just doesn't work for me. I live in a VERY rural area, no store within 50 miles that doubles coupons, so most times buying the generic is actually cheaper for me. But, I have ways to get around it, and hopefully ways that will help you as well.
In the meantime, you might checkout the following areas that I use the most:
Craigslist website
Freecycle email list
Tree of wishes website
ebay website
